You could make the case that Gov. Rick Snyder has led a charmed political life at the ballot box. He's run in only two elections and won them both.

LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) - Minority Democratic lawmakers are turning a debate over furniture into a legislative issue with bills that redistribute contract funding and increase financial disclosure requirements.

They contend that Gov. Snyder's cousin, who owns DBI Furniture, got a $19 million contract when Jennifer Granholm was governor, but when Snyder came in the contract shot up to $41 million.

Now comes word that the Michigan Economic Development Corporation did a no-bid contract with Snyder's cousin to remodel an office building.

These Democrats think that is wrong and seek to divert $22 million from the furniture contract back into the schools and slap a one million dollar cap on any future furniture deals.

The governor dismissed the earlier charge of favoritism as not true, saying it's just election year campaigning.

In the wake of the MEDC contract Snyder did not have time to answer questions during a news conference. He had to get to Ferris State Sniversity, his media secretary explains as she reports there is no ethical appearance problem to be uncomfortable about.

Democrats are not likely to get the cap on the furniture budget, but they will not end their attacks on this alleged favoritism involving the governor's cousin.
