Emanuel wants to upgrade all Chicago ambulances to advanced

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Chicago Fire Department will investigate what may be a shortage of specialized ambulances in the city, which may be putting residents at risk.

Chicago has 60 "advanced life support" ambulances, which are staffed by paramedics who can administer IVs. The city has 15 "basic life support" ambulances which transport patients.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to get rid of all the basic ambulances and upgrade to advanced ambulances.

The City Council is asking the fire department to come up with a plan and report back.
