Dog Scares Mailman, Forces Homeowners To Visit Post Office

Posted: Updated:

The classic cartoon-parodied image of a mailman getting chased by a dog is no joke in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. An unhappy mailman no longer delivers mail to one neighborhood because of a local homeowner's dog.

Dozens of families in the neighborhoods have dogs, but only one has made a major mess for the residents. Dog owner Guillermo Tellez claims his dog is "nice," but other homeowners claim otherwise.

"We got chased a couple times just bringing in our groceries into our house in our own driveway," said Alyssa Taylor. "We called animal control at that point and they did come and seize the dogs because it did not have its vaccines up to date. Two weeks later my five year old was bit in the back of the leg in our own backyard."

The dog also attacked the neighborhood mailman, forcing him to reconsider his route. Now, the neighborhood is forced to travel to their local post office, and they are not too pleased.

"It's a bunch of poop. I think it's got stamps on it and it says to deliver it, they should deliver it," says Elmer Kasey. "I don't really care what they do. I just want my mail back."

The post office reports they will resume services once the dog owner takes control of the situation.

Police report that if they see the dog running around the neighborhood, they will reprimand the dog owner.
