SNOW TIMELINE: 6 to 10 inches of snow in Twin Cities forecast

Posted: Updated:

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Twin Cities metro that spans from 7 p.m. Thursday until 7 p.m. Friday. FULL LIST OF ACTIVE WARNINGS:

Thursday afternoon: Moderate traffic impact. Wet roads with minor slushy accumulations. All precipitation changes over to a heavy, wet snow overnight and hangs around through Friday early afternoon.

Friday morning: Very high traffic impact. Snowy, sloppy and slushy roads with several inches of snow accumulations.  We'll see snow totals of 6 to 10 inches fall around the Twin Cities metro and a narrow band in the 8 to 12-inch range for areas north of the metro, especially into northwestern Wisconsin. Contrast that with a 3 to 7-inch band south and west of the metro.

Saturday: Sunny a high near 40 help destroy the fresh slop pack on Saturday.

REMEMBER: The ground and roads are warm, so melting and compaction will lead to different accumulations depending on surface and frequency, as well as when the snow totals are measured. The warmth in the atmosphere is working against overall snow accumulations, but this storm is strong enough and has enough moisture to produce some hefty totals.
