Neighbor saves 4 college students from Dinkytown fire

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

As flames spread to two homes near Dinkytown, a neighbor rushed next door to ensure 4 college students escaped safely on Thursday morning.

The Minneapolis Fire Department said crews reported to the fire around 2:20 a.m. at 804 13th Avenue SE. Upon arrival, they saw heavy fire in the front of the building with "vertical extension" to the upper portion of the building.

The fire's strength caused it to spread to the neighboring building at 800 13th Ave. SE. A second alarm was called in for support.

Minneapolis firefighters said the three people inside the home where the fire began made it out safely. Just arriving home from work, Mike Brennan ran inside the adjacent home to wake up the four occupants to get them outside.

"I was yelling 'fire' from the outside, hoping I could wake somebody up. Once I entered the house I continued to yell, ‘Fire, we gotta get out!' We left the residence, moved across the street, shortly after, fire trucks, policemen all the first responders started coming in," he said.

No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
