Nassau's fight to stop animal abuse

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The Nassau County SPCA has launched and new incentive to stop animal abuse by offering rewards if you report abuse or dog fighting that leads to a conviction.

The SPCA and local legislators say that reports of animal abuse here are on the rise. The SPCA brought a pit bull named Miss Harper to show the effects of animal abuse. The case is pending but the dog's owners mutilated her ears. The case is in the court system. The SPCA hopes to be able to find the dog a new home once it recovers from surgery. It also had to have its leg amputated.

The organizers hope a financial incentive will prompt more people to report animal abuse and neglect. Organizers are asking people to call even if they are not 100 percent sure if there has been abuse of an animal. The SPCA would rather check it out then have something go unreported.
