6 of the best lower back exercises and stretches

Your "core" includes not only your abs, but also your lower back. When you feel pain in your lower back due to overuse, injury or under training, it can be painful doing every day tasks.

Fox 9 fitness expert Ali Holman stops by to show us her favorite strengthening and stretching exercises for your lower back area to combat pain and keep you moving.

Strengthening:

  1. Plank
  2. Bird-Dog
  3. Roll Like a Ball

Stretching:

  1. Piriformis Stretch: On back, knees bent, right leg crossed over left.  Pull left thigh slowly toward your chest until you feel a "Good" stretch
  2. Hip Raise:  Lay on back, raise hips and hold for 3 seconds and then lower
  3. Rounded Back to Child's Pose
