Thumbsucker Academy is entering its seventh year in business and is happy to announce that we are growing and in search of motivated employees! As a private home-daycare for children, ranging in age from eight weeks through three years, we pride ourselves on teaching our students different life-skills that they will hold with them, and use, for the rest of their lives. It is a special feeling to impart such knowledge on the future leaders of the world, and we welcome all qualified applicants to join us on this wonderful journey of teaching!

The nursery teacher will provide direction for the program and staff in the classroom of babies, aged up to one year old, and implement program curriculum in accordance with early childhood development. He or she will work cooperatively with teachers, assistants, and administrators to carry out the Thumbsucker Academy mission and vision. The incumbent will provide quality childcare services to children and parents that focus on the core values of Thumbsucker Academy and integrate developmental milestones for the children.

Essential Functions:

- PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE WITH CHILDREN IS A MUST.

- Work with supervisor to implement curriculum within the established guidelines.

- Create and implement weekly lesson/activity plans.

- Create a theme-based classroom in relation to our curriculum through art activities, pictures and documentation panels everyday.

- Complete a daily classroom checklist to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.

- Supervise the children, classroom, and all activities.

- Cater to the expectation of the families about eating and sleeping schedules; Communicate any changes or transitions on a daily basis.

- Maintain program site, equipment, and supplies

- Provide work direction to staff while on duty and assist in staff training.

- Assist with yearly staff evaluations and with interviewing applicants for staff positions within the childcare program.

- Maintain required program records and children's files.

- Maintain classroom equipment, supplies, toys, etc.

- Report to supervisor daily on any changes in the day's curriculum.

- Attend mandatory school events, staff meetings and parent-teacher conferences.

Qualifications - Required

- College degree

- Minimum 21 years of age

- Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR, First Aid Certifications within 30 days of hire

- Commitment to working with children in a developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful and positive effect on their lives

- Ability to plan, organize and implement program activities.

- Excellent skills in teaching, written and verbal communication, and human relations.

- Ability to work with diverse populations in an interdisciplinary environment

- Ability to critically think and act

- Ability to handle stressful situations with a calm demeanor

- Understand early childhood developmental stages

- Ability to work cooperatively with others in teams

- Excellent organizational skills

- Reliable transportation to and from work

- ECE associates degree (highly recommended)

- ECE bachelor's degree (highly recommended)

- Prior experience working with children (REQUIRED)

Physical Demands:

- Lead and participate in activities that may include running, throwing, pushing, and kicking.

- Lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

- Ability to stoop, sit on the floor

- Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor the environment and children's well being
