Dayton commends MNsure for surpassing enrollment goal

Posted: Updated:
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

Heralding the milestone as "significant progress" for the once-troubled health insurance exchange, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton commended MNsure for surpassing the enrollment goal days before the deadline.

More than 136,774 Minnesotans have now used the market to find health care coverage as required by the Affordable Care Act, topping the initial goal of 135,000 a full six days before the open enrollment period ends on March 31.

"Surpassing the enrollment goal demonstrates the significant progress MNsure has made since December. This is a major achievement, but more must be done to improve MNsure's functionality and customer service for Minnesotans," Dayton said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon. "I want to recognize all the employees who have worked countless hours to help more than 136,000 Minnesotans enroll in affordable health coverage. I encourage Minnesotans who have not yet enrolled in health care coverage, to do so by March 31st."

Today on Fox 9 News @ 5:30, Randy Meier spoke to Scott Leitz, interim CEO of MNsure about their final push for enrollment and how the market has evolved since he took the helm. Watch the video to see the full interview.

"We are thrilled that more than 136,000 Minnesotans have enrolled in quality, affordable coverage through MNsure," said interim CEO Scott Leitz. "We're not done yet. There are six days left in open enrollment and we want to make sure every Minnesotan has the ability to obtain health insurance coverage."

BY THE NUMBERS

To date, Minnesotans have used MNsure to obtain health care coverage -- and the numbers break down like this:

When it comes to drag racing, rocket-type speed is the name of the game -- but that also means things can go wrong very quickly, and a double crash at a Brainerd, Minn., track is another grim reminder.
