SPRING OFFICIALLY ARRIVES THURSDAY MARCH 20, 2014
When it officially turns to spring, most of the country will be welcoming warmer temperatures. However, as we all know, it's a bit different here in the Upper Midwest. While the flowers are blooming elsewhere, the ice is still trying to melt here. We are still waiting to just see a patch of green grass. Although it may not look like spring, it will be here at 11:57 AM Thursday regardless of the scenery.
Unlike March first, when we hit meteorological spring, this Thursday will be the real deal.
The Equinox, which is derived from the Latin words aequus (equal) and nox (night), arrives Thursday at exactly 11:57 am central time.
Now, because of the latitude of the Upper Midwest, our days are not exactly half and half. We actually had that on St. Patrick's Day with a 7:22 am sunrise followed by a 7:22 pm sunset.
