Officer involved shooting causes transit delays through downtown Phoenix

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Police say their entire crime scene from Tuesday's officer involved shooting is right on, or right next to the light rail tracks in downtown Phoenix.

Investigators will likely have the tracks closed for 4 to 5 hours while they investigate.

Light rail trains are running but they're delayed at least 30 to 40 minutes while they try and bypass that investigation scene

During a police pursuit, an unmarked police truck ended up blocking the light rail tracks at 1st Ave. & Jefferson, prompting authorities to shut down the tracks.

From the other side of Jefferson looking east a better of view the intersection and light rail tracks shut down. Those parked in front of superior courthouse stuck

"The cops are actually trying to figure out since were on a one way street were parked this way how they're going to get my car from over there, and I thought front row parking was a good thing out backwards we'll see," said misty muse.

Light rail riders going east had to wait the longest delays for anyone headed towards mesa and ASU.

"I work at the downtown campus for ASU so ordinarily we would go other there, and they're telling us we cant," said Greg Zachary.

ASU students and professors ran to catch shuttles.

"I have to take the ASU shuttle, but it's way farther, it's like a 15 minute walk to my class but if I take the light rail its right there it's just inconvenient that way," said Sam Carrillo.

"Next thing you know they're telling us we have to walk to a shuttle, and then they change that to over here so now were going east on the westside," said Lois Leisen.
