It made Jennifer Holliday a Broadway sensation. It brought Jennifer Hudson an Academy Award. And now, the Tony-winning musical "Dreamgirls" hits the stage in Atlanta.

The Tri-Cities High School VPA (Visual and Performing Arts) Magnet Program will present the story of Deena Jones & The Dreams, a fictional 1960s girl group, March 13th-23rd. The show became a sensation when it opened on Broadway in 1981, making Jennifer Holliday a star with the song "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." In 2006, the musical was adapted into a hit movie starring Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, and Jennifer Hudson.

The Tri-Cities VPA Magnet Program, meanwhile, launched in 1990 as a place where students in Fulton County can foster their talents in musical, drama, dance, and visual arts. Students there earn their high school diploma while also getting specialized training in the arts.

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken spent the morning on the stage at the Viola Turner Theater with some of the students involved in "Dreamgirls" -- click the videos above to check it out!
