Flagstaff man killed retrieving item on I-40

Posted: Updated:

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a 30-year-old Flagstaff father of four was fatally hit by a car while trying to retrieve a rabbit cage that fell out of his truck bed.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that the Arizona Highway Patrol says Clint "Tony" Orozco stepped out into the lane Thursday night on Interstate 40 near the Butler exit when he was hit by a Ford sedan.

Orozco was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors.

Officials say the 21-year-old female driver will likely not be charged.

DPS says Orozco, who served in the Arizona National Guard, was a military equipment technician at Camp Navajo.
