Officials say a man stole a bus from the Tempe Transit Cente then crashed it. He then tried to escape but was caught in the process but was caught by a man's best friends.
It turns out the suspect picked the wrong back yard as when he jumped over the fence he found some four legged heroes.
It was a peaceful end to what had been a wild run.
That police say began when James Robert Martin jumped behind the wheel of a city bus that was left running.
Martin was caught on surveillance video at Tempe's transit center.
No one was on board the bus but the suspect was determined to out-run the police.
"He went into a cul-de-sac and he was stuck there. He had nowhere do to go so he pushed the gas to the floor crashed through somebody's backyard," said, Tempe Police Sergeant, Mike Pooley.
From there police say Martin drove into an alley.
When he realized he was trapped, he jumped out of the bus while it and into Jeff's backyard.
"Immediately the dogs went after him. As soon as he saw the dogs he put up his hands and just kind of dropped to his knees" said Jeff.
The dogs kept the James Robert Martin until Tempe Police arrived and took him into custody.
Tempe Police originally identified Martin as Patrick Moonie. Sgt. Mike Pooley says a family member of Martin's called officers to tell them Martin's real name.
Pooley says he'll face additional charges for his actions.
