Mountain Lion Roams California's Streets

Posted: Updated:

There are plenty of things that roam the streets of Southern California. However, a mountain lion isn't exactly a welcomed sight.

Surveillance Cameras caught one in action in the Hollywood Hills last Wednesday night. The mountain lion was seen wandering the streets walking alongside parked cars.

Los Angeles Wildlife Specialist Officer Greg Randall told NBC Southern California this mountain lion is "definitely" a 4-year-old mountain lion known by scientists as P-22.

The lion was tagged with a GPS collar in March 2012. He left Westside of the Santa Monica Mountains and reportedly made its way to Griffith Park after crossing the San Diego (405) and Hollywood (101) Freeways.

Randall believes that the mountain lion made a visit to this neighborhood because he was looking for food and possibly companionship.

"It's very possible he's looking for a mate," he said.

This isn't California's only close encounter with the fierce feline. Just last week, a 100-pound dog was killed by a mountain lion in the back yard of a home.
