SOLDIER SURPRISE: Crystal veteran reunited with wife at Wild game

Posted: Updated:
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

A soldier from Minnesota gave his wife a great shock on Tuesday night when, with a little help from the Minnesota Wild, he surprised on her birthday by revealing that he had come home early.

Nicholas Jenn, of Crystal, actually came home because he had to visit his grandmother in the hospital, but he used the unexpected trip to organize a special reunion at the Xcel Energy Center.

Jenn may be a Wild fan himself, but he's an even bigger fan of his wife, Jamie, and their 3-year-old son, Grayson.

"It originally started as a surprise for him, but it kind of evolved from there," he said.

Since September, Jenn has been on his third tour in Kuwait. After being apart from his family for 6 months, he arranged a trip home with plans to surprise her for her birthday during the second period of the game.

"She's probably going to be ecstatic at first, and then I don't know," he said with a laugh.

Jamie Jenn thought she was randomly selected to answer a trivia question about a Wild player when her husband suddenly showed up on the big screen with a special message.

"Firstly, happy birthday, Jamie -- and secondly, turn around," he said.

Jamie Jenn welcomed the surprise reunion with open arms.

"I felt like one of those people on TV from the 'Coming Home" TV show," she said. "I never expected anything like that -- just really surprised and really happy."

Nicholas Jenn admits it was hard for him to keep his homecoming a secret, but he says being back with his family made it well worth it -- and they do have a bit of time to spend. Jenn will head back overseas on March 25.
