MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

After stretch of sub-zero days, a 40-degree day was something worth celebrating for many Minnesotans -- especially those cultivating a spring romance.

With the thermometer climbing above freezing, it seems many hearts are eager to warm up too.

"We've all sort of acclimated to the freezing, freezing cold," Jennifer Grimm said. "It's amazing. It's barely 40 degrees and we're seeing people run in shorts -- and we're down to two layers, if that. We're delighted. It's very pleasant. It's romantic!"

Whether they were walking along Lake Calhoun, taking a jog with the dog or simply strolling along some slushy sidewalks, plenty of people were drawn outside on Sunday.

"It feels good to walk outside and inhale and not choke on your breath," Joe Cruz told Fox 9 News.

At the auto show, people were looking ahead to sunnier days as they hopped inside the drop-tops out for the ogling.

"It's balmy for Minnesota in March -- at least what we've been used to," Nathan Endrud said.

Even though the snow is still very much a feature of the sculpture garden at the Walker Art Center, spring sweethearts were making memories with a first-time walks and slushy snowball fights.

"Even with 2 ft. of snow, you can still get around," Adam Leach said. "The Walker is a cool place to get back in touch."
