Philadelphians Hit The Streets In Search Of Spring

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The temperature outside felt so close to spring, some went in search of it at the Philadelphia Flower Show.

While things were blooming inside, many were desperately waiting for the calendar to catch up, for a chance to put away those shovels, coats and gloves.

The temperature was cooler than yesterday, but 40 degrees almost felt balmy for some considering the kind of winter we've all gone through.

People are getting excited, because soon we'll be able to trade in those snow shovels for ones that scoop soil instead.

Gregory Underwood is doing his best to play way the winter blues.

Each note, warmer than the next.

"Get down on my knees and pray," he sang.

The beauty of  the Philadelphia Flower Show surely conjured up the coming season.

A big crowd was there, hoping to catch a glimpse of spring.

"It's nice, all that snow is still on the ground and then you come in here and it's like spring. And you want to see flowers, but you can't see flowers because they're not bloomed yet and you come in  here and it's all ready to go," Kimberly Cruz said.

Cruz created a hat at the show to go with her ensemble.

"I want to dress like spring to encourage it to come," she said.

Some are going crazy waiting for that to happen.

"I think everybody is just ready for the weather to change. Just tired of the jackets and the coats and the hats. They just want warm weather," Tracey Sterling said.

The abundant sunshine drove the masses outside, walking the streets of Philadelphia.

The Italian Market in South Philly filled up with footsteps.

It became a more popular destination than it's been lately.

Optimism was also in the air because shedding that extra layer of clothing will soon be a reality.

"It's on the way. Yesterday was good, it's a little colder today but the snow is melting so that's a good start," one resident said.

In the meantime, Underwood will keep playing his tunes until a city's wishes are answered.

PennDot crew took the day off from repairing potholes Sunday after working on them Saturday.

They'll be back at it again Monday.

Yet another sign the winter finish line is now in sight.
