NW Georgia town eyes drone to film celebration

Posted: Updated:

RINGGOLD, Ga. (AP) - Tourism officials in the northwest Georgia town of Ringgold are exploring the idea of launching a drone to film festivities at the upcoming 1890s Day Jamboree.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that promoting tourism -- not surveillance -- is the goal.

The board of the local convention and visitors bureau on Tuesday voted unanimously to explore spending up to $1,200 for a video camera-equipped drone with four helicopter rotors. The aircraft would fly overhead and capture footage of events during the annual jamboree on Memorial Day weekend.

Director of Downtown Development Joseph Brellenthin said it would give people "a sweeping view of the whole town."
