Harmless, hollow grenade evacuates St. Paul school

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

More than 500 students were evacuated from Heights Community School in St. Paul on Friday after a student brought a harmless, hollowed-out grenade to school to show to his friends.

St. Paul Public Schools stressed there was never a threat, but students were escorted on the buses for about 30 minutes as authorities investigated the grenade. The incident was reported just before 11 a.m., forcing the school into its security procedure.

Parents will be notified about what happened.
