Street Shootout Leads To 2 Arrests; 18 Gunshots Strike Vehicles

It was like a scene from the O.K. Corral, but the backdrop was Philadelphia.

Police are investigating a wild shooting that forced bystanders to literally run for cover.

It happened around midnight near 13th and Cambria streets in North Philadelphia.

Police say two men opened fire on each other without any regard for those around them – not even the police. Fortunately, no one was injured in this shooting.

Both suspects are under arrest.

Police say it was just before midnight when highway patrol officers on 13th Street saw two men firing weapons on the 2900 block. Officers chased one of the gunmen, arresting the 19-year-old in the area of 12th and Cambria. A second suspect was also arrested later.

A total of 21 shots were fired, police say. Investigators recovered two semi-automatic handguns, both of which were found under cars.

Six parked vehicles were struck by gunfire. One of those was struck nine times. The vehicles were struck a grand total of 18 times.

One van that sustained two shots to the front windshield was struck as a female drove up to the gunfire, police say. Frightened, she jumped out her vehicle and ran. The lights were left on and the door was wide open in that van.

So far, police have not found any shooting victims.

Police say the highway patrol officers were lucky not to be injured.
