Picking the right suburb through real estate 'matchmaking'

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

After dealing with headaches moving from New York City to the suburbs, Alison Bernstein created Suburban Jungle. It's like a matchmaking service. Her business' goal is to introduce you to your perfect home in one of 500 towns within commuting distance to New York City.

Suburban Jungle breaks down those communities, honing in on the personality of the town and making sure it's a match for yours. The process starts with a detailed questionnaire.

Suburban Jungle says it prides itself on being a completely free service, making its money from the buy-side real estate agents' commissions.

The company also boasts that it has locals on its payroll.

Police are responding to the Brooklyn Bridge where two whitewashed American flags have been raised. It is not clear who raised the flags or why. The America flags that are normally up at the bridge appear to have been removed.

Every day, those who live and work in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn drive and bike and walk across their canal, growing a little more accustomed to but no less disgusted by its scent and appearance. Once the busiest canal in the United States, the Gowanus now bears the distinction as perhaps the most polluted body of water in the nation. No one knows exactly how polluted because few have summoned enough courage to dive into its murky depths to investigate.
