Metro Transit bus, pickup crash at Fridley intersection

FRIDLEY, Minn. (KMSP) -

Two people were injured in a crash involving a Metro Transit bus and a pickup truck at a busy Fridley, Minn. intersection Thursday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. along Highway 47 at 53rd Avenue. The bus was just beginning a Route 10 trip turning left from University Avenue on to 53rd Avenue when a pickup struck the bus in the intersection.

The bus involved in the crash had no passengers at the time. Two people in the pickup were taken to the hospital complaining of neck and back injuries and the bus operator was also later brought in for evaluation.

Per standard procedure, the bus operator underwent post-accident drug and alcohol testing.

Fridley police reportedly cited the pickup driver for failure to stop at a traffic device.
