7 changes coming for SAT college entrance exam

College Board officials announced big changes for the SAT college entrance exam on Wednesday.

The new exam format won't be rolled out until 2016, but officials said the first revamp since 2005 will make the exam more representative of what students study in high school and focus on skills essential for their post-graduate lives.

7 CHANGES

-Optional essay
-No penalties for wrong answers
-More common vocabulary
-Scoring on 1,600-point scale, separate score for optional essay
-Essay graded on students' ability to explain author's argument
-Narrowed math concepts, algebra in particular
-Calculator allowed on only certain math questions
