Minivan Driver Faces DUI Charge In Rig's I-95 Overturn Crash

Updated:
BENSALEM, Pa. -

The driver of a minivan involved in Wednesday morning's crash on southbound Interstate 95 – resulting in an overturned tractor-trailer, fuel spill and lane closures – faces a DUI charge, Pennsylvania State Police say.

CHECK: Live Traffic Conditions

The crash occurred at 4:13 a.m. just south of the Woodhaven Road (Route 63) exit in Bensalem.

Placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence was 24-year-old Nicholas Harris, 24, of Wilmington, Del.

According to state police, Harris' 2002 Honda Odyssey stopped prior to the crash partially in the right lane and right shoulder. Then came the tractor-trailer in the right lane, which took evasive action but side-swiped the minivan, then went into the middle lane, went off the right side of the road and rolled into a ditch.

SkyFOX over the scene later showed the upside-down rig off the highway and emergency officials blocking the right and center lanes.

The crash also resulted in a fuel spill.

Complicating matters for commuters early Wednesday was another, unrelated crash on the northbound side of I-95 in the same area.

Two lanes on the southbound side were closed for most of the morning rush. But a second lane was being allowed past the scene by 9:15 a.m., and a ramp from Route 63 to southbound I-95 was reopened.

Officials expect to reopen the final lane on I-95 South by 1 p.m.

FOX 29's Kacie McDonnell reported that your alternate route around the scene is Street Road to Route 13 to Academy Road to get back on I-95.
