CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Child welfare officials are investigating a babysitter in connection with the death of a 4-month-old girl in south suburban Chicago Heights.

Paramedics and police were called to the 1100 block of Division Street just after 4 p.m. Monday for a report of an unresponsive baby, according to a statement from Chicago Heights police.

When they found 4-month-old Morgan Joseph not breathing, she was taken to Franciscan St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, but was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said the girl, who lived in the 100 block of Doris Lane in Chicago Heights, was pronounced dead at 4:46 p.m.

An autopsy Tuesday was inconclusive, with results pending further studies, according to the medical examiner's office.

Police said the baby "was in the care of the residents" of the Division Street home at the time of her death.

The state Dept. of Children and Family Services is investigating the girl's babysitter for allegations of neglect, spokeswoman Veronica Resa said. The agency has not had prior contact with the sitter.

There were an unspecified number of other children in the home at the time, but because they were in the care of a sitter, a safety plan is not necessary, Resa said.

While police are conducting death investigation, "There are no indications of any kind of abuse or foul play," the statement said.
