Thousands mourn 3 Carleton College students at vigil

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (KMSP) -

Even the students who weren't close to James Adams, Michael Goodgame or Paxton Harvieux say their deaths are an incredible loss to the college and the entire Northfield community.

More than 2,000 Carleton College students filed inside Skinner Memorial chapel Saturday for a private vigil.

The men died on the scene of a tragic accident on Friday and were less than three miles from the campus when the SUV they were in spun out into the path of an oncoming semi truck.

"James, Michael and Paxton were integral parts of this community," said Matthew Fitzgerald, student body president. "They brought a lot of energy to this campus."

All three were members of the school's Ultimate Frisbee team.

Two other students were seriously injured in the crash. Williams Sparks, from Illinois, is listed in satisfactory condition while Conner Eckert, of Seattle, remains in serious condition.

The driver of the semi suffered no injuries. There was no alcohol detected on anyone involved in the incident.
