Germantown Library Without Power For Five Weeks

Joe Gresko lost his job two year ago and since then he has been pounding the pavement...in cyber space.

"Very few companies will give you an application to file for a job.  Most of them want you to go online," explains Gresko.

But Gresko can't afford a computer. He goes to the Joseph Coleman Northwest Regional Library, to use their computer twice a week.

He faces a huge problem now. The Coleman library has been closed for nearly five weeks!

"They want me to look for a job, and how am I supposed to look for a job when the computers are closed. The library that has the computers is closed," continues Gresko.

A sign on the front door blames the late January closure on "electrical problems" and the flyers taped the side windows; refer to a "buildings emergency."

Either way, this popular branch is off limits to the community it's supposed to serve.

Joe says his calls to City Hall got him nowhere, so FOX 29's Bruce Gordon called library officials and PECO to get results.

Turns out, the utility spent four weeks working with a private contractor to repair underground cable problems at the intersection of Green and Chelten.        

 PECO's Spokesman said the library's energy problem was repaired on February 22nd.

After the electrical problem was solved, there was a heat pump failure.

Bruce Gordon spoke to Joe McPeak, Associate Director Philadelphia Free Library, who understands this is a problem and assures that it will be fixed.
