Smart home concept taking off

Lindsey Peterson-Smiley got her house smart-ified nearly two years ago, and she's been impressed.

A control panel not only runs their thermostat and security system, which are both also controlled by smartphone, which means you can set your temperature and lock your doors remotely too.

The integrated system uses a phone signal, not wi-fi, which the security company Vivint is working to turn into a full-package automated home.

In 1957, Monsanto thought the home of the future was clad in plastic and had a microwave in the kitchen. The home was on display at Disneyland for 10 years.

We never did move into skypods, but the smart home is really taking off. Wi-fi is getting into everything, including the Nest thermostat, which Google recently bought for millions.

There are now smartphone connected garage door openers and internet-enabled refrigerators.

It's not quite the Jetsons, but our homes are quickly getting smarter. Let's hope they don't get too smart.
