America will know Minnesota's pain with 'Fargo' FX series

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Soon, the entire nation will know our pain.

Many Minnesotans are familiar with the Coen brothers' 1996 film "Fargo," set in the dead of winter in 1987 Brainerd, Minn.* Despite the movie's mix of satire and violence, critics say it contains dead-on depictions of small town life in the frigid Midwest.

Whether or not we admit the actors' amplified Minnesota and North Dakota accents are a bit accurate, the movie is getting its own FX television series.

Joel and Ethan Coen are back as executive producers of the 10-episode series, also named "Fargo," featuring Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks and Lester Nygaard.

A teaser released on YouTube shows Thornton battling the Polar Vortex scraping off his car window – in April. Something Minnesotans know all too well.

The show premieres April 15 at 9:00 CT.

*This also means we will need to explain to outsiders (again) that Fargo is in North Dakota, not Minnesota -- a hard case to make when a movie called "Fargo" opens with "The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 1987."
