Joining a long list of superstars from Billy Joel and Madonna to Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, Romeo Santos will become the first Latin artist to headline at Yankee Stadium.
Last summer Timberlake and Jay-Z dominated the stage. Yankee officials predict this summer will belong to Santos, the Bronx-born king of Bachata. He is a multi-platinum, chart-topping record-breaking humble heartthrob who will take center stage in July.
"I'm not only doing this event representing a genre and a culture, but also Latinos -- this is a big responsibility," he said.
Behind the scenes the former lead singer for the hit group Aventurra told me his inspiration comes from the ladies.
"I always just try to talk about love," he said. "You know love is never going out of style."
Santos is known for his Bachata music, an Afro-Latino genre that originated from the Dominican Republic. But he's also collaborated with a wide variety of artists, including usher.
This is plenty of love to go around on his new album, the "Formula Vol. 2." it features hip hop superstars Nicki Minaj and drake.
Santos said he used to walk around Yankee Stadium with his dad, just hoping to see a game. He never dreamed he'd be performing here. But his dedication, perseverance, and love of music are paying off.
"I just encourage everyone if you have a dream, follow up on it, move forward, and don't let anyone put you down," he said.
The concert is set for July 12. Santos is hoping his fans will snap up all the tickets long before that.
