Bucks Co. Community Holds Fundraiser For Shooting Victims

BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. -

Tom Doyle joins his Bucks County family and friends that are reaching out in their first major appearance since an October 2013 shooting on I95 in Virginia.

The shooting incident left him confined to a wheelchair.

"We've all been through a rough time so it's just terrific to see everybody," says Tom Doyle.

The beef and beer held at the Spring Mill Manor in Ivyland has all the staples to make a night feel special for a family that has been through such a tough time.

"This is totally overwhelming but we are so grateful, so grateful for everybody," says Betty Doyle.

Tom Doyle has been hospitalized for four months after someone fired a shotgun into their truck while they were on a family trip to Florida.

"We had no idea what happened to us. It went through the driver side window and hit my husband in the back and hit me in the face.  At first we had no idea what it was. [We]Got ourselves over to the side of the road and our lives started from there," recalls Ms. Doyle.

Betty Doyle, a popular cross country coach at Archbishop Wood, now has three face surgeries under her belt but she still puts the focus on her husband.

She says, "I keep saying mine's a paper cut compared to what happened to him.  We're just trying to get him moving again you know."

That's why the community assembled this event filled with raffles, silent auctions and shirts for sale.

"It's important to them because they need a lot of equipment they need a lot of care, they need a lot of support," explains fundraiser attendee.

There are more operations and hospital stays ahead but the family says being together is the most important thing right now.

"We're still so lucky.  We're so blessed and we have the most amazing community," says, Doyles' daughter, Kristin Doyle.

The community support for the Doyles doesn't end here.  A major golf outing has already been scheduled for July.
