4 hospitalized after workers feel ill at East Mesa business

MESA, Ariz. -

Hazmat crews aren't sure what caused at least 20 workers to feel a burning sensation at an East Valley business.

Crews responded to the incident late Wednesday evening at a business near Elliot & Signal Butte Road.

Mesa Fire Capt. Ken Hall says 20 people were evaluated after complaining of feeling a burning sensation; four of those people were taken to a hospital.

Originally the complaints were thought to be the result of a chemical spill, but a Hazmat crew went into the building, metered it and were unable to find any readings of chemicals that would have made the workers feel ill.

The building was cleared and workers have been allowed to return.
