Stoned driving: How dangerous is it?

Posted: Updated:

Fox 9 medical expert Archelle Georgiou explains how driving under the influence of marijuana could endanger others on the road.

While driving stoned and drunk driving carry vastly different levels of impairment, Dr. Georgiou outlines a few characteristics of drivers who smoked pot recently:

1. Swerving
2. Slower driving
3. Can't follow another car

It's difficult to determine if a driver has been smoking, however. THC can stay in a person's system for days, weeks, even months depending on the person's physiology and how often he or she smokes.
