A Northstar Rail train struck a car with a mother and her infant son inside on Monday morning near Elk River, Minn.
Metro Transit buses replaced trains affected by the accident for about 30 minutes.
The accident involved a northbound train and was reported at 7:01 a.m. Monday. The scene was cleared by 7:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported; however, officials say the woman had left the car after it slid onto the tracks after coming into contact with a second car in the intersection.
According to Metro Transit, the woman was unable to move the car and was unable to retrieve the infant from his car seat. She exited the vehicle and immediately turned to get her son. Once the two were out of the vehicle, she went to a nearby business for help.
The train stopped about a quarter mile down the road and departed Big Lake about 25 minutes behind schedule.
