Court Decides Concealed Gun Permits Should Be Easier To Get

Posted: Updated:

The most liberal district court in the country has just decided that concealed gun permits should be easier to get in California.

Specifically, the 9th district court of appeals decided, in a case out of San Diego, that S.D. County was violating the Second Amendment to the construction by requiring law abiding residents to show "good cause" to get a concealed gun permit. All the person ( without a criminal record ) has to show is the desire to get a permit.

Aside from good cause, applicants usually have to show good moral character to carry a concealed handgun, leaving all the permitting, training requirements and so forth to the local counties and cities.

For example, Los Angeles police do not grant the permits easily, as opposed to Sacramento, where the permits are common.

California is one of eight states that denies the permits. It did allow citizens to carry unloaded firearms in public until 2013.

In this case, San Diego is asking the ninth circuit to read their decision again, to make sure that's what they want. They may, but experts say it's unlikely they will change anything. The Supreme Court is the next step, IFthey take the case. They have refused similar ones from other states, saying the Second Amendment does seem to take precedence on this issue.

So, don't go running to get your concealed weapons permit just yet. We will keep you updated on this historical development that is sure to enrage the fire of weapons issues, on both sides.
