(WJBK) -

Wayne County Executive Bob Ficano and Chief Financial Officer Mark Abbo laid out the plan to reduce the county's mounting debt.

The plan includes revising pension and health care coverage; cutting employee wages; reducing beds in the jails; spinning off the county's waste water treatment system; and leasing the 60,000 square-feet of empty space in the Guardian Building.

The county has had a deficit of about $175 million since Sept. 30, 2013.

Ficano and Abbo stopped by FOX 2 to talk about their proposal.

Ficano also addresses the failed jail project and comments made by Wayne Co. Prosecutor Kym Worthy earlier on Tuesday.

Worthy addressed some shortages her office is facing during a news conference. She says she is down 85 people; backed up on more than 200 child abuse cases and 40 homicide cases; and is backed up almost six weeks on not-in-custody warrants.

When asked why the office is facing the shortages, Worthy responded: "I treat it to a CEO who doesn't give a damn about public safety."

Ficano says budgets for the prosecutor's and the sheriff's office are the only ones that received an increase last year while the rest took a 20 percent cut.
