The Oscars Luncheon: Better Than The Main Event?

Posted: Updated:

The annual Oscars Luncheon is perhaps better than the real thing. It's all the same Hollywood heavy hitters...without the stress of a gown/tux or the pressure of not winning a trophy. What this translates to a lot of smiles! Meryl Streep, Jared Leto, Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey, U2...were just a few of the famous faces at the luncheon. My personal favorite moment yesterday was when Leonardo DiCaprio walked into the press Q&A room. I must admit, covering celebrities for the last 10 or so years has made me somewhat indifferent to them...but there are still a select few that just command a room like no one else. I had that moment with Leo. He walked in and you just said to yourself, 'Now that's a MOVIE STAR!'. I had a similar moment with Charlize Theron on the red carpet last year at the Oscars. She just commanded a different level of attention...which is quite hard to do if you think about all the beautiful, captivating people that attend the Oscars. In a sea of stunning people...she was a ray of light.

Another favorite moment from the Oscars Luncheon was meeting Lupita Nyong'o for the first time. She is maybe the most BEAUTIFUL person I've ever seen. Her satin skin...bone structure...inner light...she is everything. And an interesting factoid I learned about the first time nominee is that she grew up in Mexico as well as Kenya. She is fluent in Spanish, Swahili, and English. How cool is that?!

Two people who I'm convinced are my best friends (in my head)...are Sandra Bullock and Jared Leto. Both seem incredibly humble, funny and very real.

I had front row seat so I was able to take some good pictures of these A-listers. Meet me on instagram @TrulyJulieChang to check 'em out!

Officials say a 16-year-old boy is "lucky to be alive" and unharmed after flying from California to Hawaii stowed away in a plane's wheel well, surviving cold temperatures at 38,000 feet and a lack of oxygen. "Doesn't even remember the flight," FBI spokesman Tom Simon in Honolulu told The Associated Press on Sunday night. "It's amazing he survived that." The boy was questioned by the FBI after being discovered on the tarmac at the Maui airport Sunday morning with no identification, Simon said...
