YALE, Mich. (WJBK) -- Crews from more than a dozen fire departments have contained a blaze at businesses in downtown Yale, a small city in St. Clair County.

Yale Police Chief Michael Redman says the fire broke out around 6 a.m. Tuesday at a sign and graphics shop and the fire spread to a laundry business next door.

Redman says crews were able to keep the fire mostly contained to one of the downtown buildings and prevented it from spreading into adjacent properties. "We were concerned that we might lose the whole block," said Redman.

M-19 at North St. remains closed to traffic.

Redman says the cause the fire remains under investigation.

Residents are being advised not to use water except for an emergency.

No injuries have been reported.
