Parking Spot Dib Turns Sour - KMSP-TV

Parking Spot Dib Turns Sour

Posted: Updated:

A cracked egg shell on top of Cheryl Goldberg's car is no winter weather science experiment. It is the aftermath of "dibs" gone wrong.

"I came to my vehicle after being parked last night and I notice there were these eggs all over my vehicle," said Goldberg in an interview with FOX 32's Tisha Lewis.

Goldberg lives in Albany Park. She made the discovery Sunday morning - egg shells and frozen yolks splattered across her car.

"I do recall last night when I got home around 11:00, it's really tough neighborhood to find parking and due to all the snow and people saving spaces, I couldn't find parking and this was the only space that it was available," said Goldberg.

After circling for at least thirty minutes, passing "dibs" on other parking spaces, Goldberg made a move - literally.

"I made the choice and decision to move the obstruction to the parking space and when I came out this morning, this afternoon, this is what I found on my vehicle. Someone viciously threw eggs on my vehicle for taking a parking spot," said Goldberg.

Goldberg's neighbor says the egging is an extreme reaction - one he wouldn't take if he returned to find his spot taken though he does understand the frustration for both parties.

"Yeah because I cleaned two days ago you know… Of course because, it's a different story if everybody cleaned the street," said Eduardo Cruz.

"I'm sorry for taking someone's spot but it was 11:00 at night, I'm a single woman, I was looking for a spot to park in," said Goldberg.

Chicago Police tell FOX 32 News "dibs" or not, if a car is vandalized, it's a crime.

Goldberg called police but it may be impossible to pursue charges. There were no witnesses or visible damage.

"Thank God it was only eggs. I've heard people getting their windows broken out, their tires slashed and it doesn't have to get that extreme," said Goldberg.
