PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

First it was an Arcadia high school student asking Miley Cyrus to the prom and  now a student from Cave Creek who is studying at the merchant marine academy asked actress Anna Kendrick to his school's big dance.

Anna Kendrick has starred in the movie Pitch Perfect, End of Watch, and in the first Twilight film.

The dance is called the Ring Dance and its a very big deal at the Merchant Marine Academy which is in New York.  Tanner Matheny is getting a 6 month head-start when he asked the actress to come to his Ring Dance in New York City in August from his ship.

He took another picture at Disneyland.  "When we get these class rings it is a very memorable moment. I would love to share it with people and why not with an actress. I feel like she would enjoy it," said Tanner Matheny.

He's even started a Facebook page and has received more than 1200 likes. "It is getting a lot likes I am really happy, I am trying to reach out on other social media websites but no big response so far so I am hoping this interview will help," said Matheny.

We spoke to Matheny via Skype, he's in San Diego now, but he's from Cave Creek. He says he always liked actress Anna Kendrick millions have watched her video on YouTube.

"When I saw her in a few movies such as Pitch Perfect and End of Watch she seemed like a very beautiful actress and I said why not try her she is one of my favorites so I thought you know what try her so I figured I'd ask," said Matheny.

His campaign is picking up a little steam on social media but as you heard no response from the actress but he still has plenty of time.
