Parts of Europe are seeing some of the highest precipitation totals in years. While some parts across the pond are digging out from rare flakes, other parts are seeking higher ground as heavy rains continue to fall. England has recorded it fifth wettest January ever. Flood warnings have been posted for the coast of France. In Italy, hundreds have been evacuated in Pisa and "Piove cani e gatti in Roma", translated Its raining cats and dogs in Rome.

The worst of the flooding in the Italian capital came in the north of the city where subway stops were closed for flooding and traffic was slowed by the rising waters. Below is a pic of the walkway along the Tiber River in Rome that I took in 2010. Compare that to the recent pic from this weekend and you can see just how high the water has risen. No joggers along these paths for quite a while.

The flooding has caused a state of emergency in Rome as the Tiber River bursts it's banks this Saturday. Deaths have been reported in Sicily from flooding streams. In Florence, the Arno river is at its highest level in 20 years and high tides have covered nearly half of Venice in water. In Pisa, water scrapes the undersides of bridges.
