Man, 19, attempts to hide stolen cash in the back of a police car

(WJBK) -

The Family Dollar on Seven Mile and Livernois was robbed at gunpoint. The robbery only lasted a few minutes and the thieves made away with $108. The two suspects ran away on foot, separating.

One of the suspects is Embrose Powell, 19. While running, he ditched the puffy, green and white coat seen on surveillance video at the business thinking it would help him blend in. But, instead, it was the lack of coat that made him stand out.

"Ironically, they caught him walking down the street without his coat on, which they thought was very odd considering how cold it was that evening," says Woody. Powell was placed in the back of the squad car to warm up. That's when officers noticed he was making strange movements in the back of the car. Turns out, he was trying to hide the money -- inside the police car -- that he had allegedly just taken from the Family Dollar.

"Once investigators did get him into custody, he did also reveal the location of where the handgun was that he used in the robbery," says Woody.
