DETROIT (WJBK) -- Republican Gov. Rick Snyder launched his bid for a second four-year term with an event at James Group International in Detroit.

Other events scheduled for Monday include stops at Two Men and a Truck in Lansing and at Downtown Market in Grand Rapids. About 50 protesters gathered outside his first stop, including teachers and labor leaders.

Tuesday's events are in Traverse City, Frankenmuth and Farmington Hills.

Snyder's campaign unofficially began in the fall when he ran a TV ad and all but declared his candidacy to Republicans on Mackinac Island. He ran a second ad during Sunday's Super Bowl, which called him Michigan's "comeback kid."

Snyder's likely Democratic opponent, Mark Schauer, says he's out of touch. Schauer dubs the re-election launch a "rebranding tour."
