After this week of challenging weather, we decided to take place in an experiment to see how big of a difference snow tires actually make. Our own Leah Beno got behind the wheel and at one point ended up in the ditch. Lakeville police decided to conduct the experiment at the Dakota County Technical College drivers training facility. The same place officers from all over the metro came to practice their skill.
"In controlled conditions like this where there's no pedestrians, there's no parked cars, no other traffic, it's interesting to see what the cars can do," said Officer Kevin O'Neill of the Lakeville Police department. "But every little bit of foot you might slide out of your lane or every extra car length it can take you to stop in a real world conditions might mean the difference between you being in a crash or not."
Do they make a difference? Watch and judge for yourself.
