Posted: Updated:

Metro Transit continue to investigate an early-morning accident between a light-rail train and a Maple Grove police squad car.

According to Metro Transit, the squad car driven by Officer Jesse Mathwig struck the train near 5th street and 5th avenue after Mathwig had left the Juvenile Center. Mathwig reported some hip pain but no other injuries were reported.

Mathwig was one of the law enforcement officers who saved a driver from a burning vehicle Thursday morning after he along with a Hennepin County Sheriff's deputy broke a window and pulled the man to safety.
