Garden City mail carrier attacked by dogs

(WJBK) -

A mail carrier was attacked by two dogs during her route in Garden City, near the intersection of Brown Avenue and Rahn Street, near Marquette Street and N. Venoy Road.

Neighbors found the woman lying on a porch crying for help after they heard a commotion outside. She was taken away by ambulance after the attack. Animal Control and Garden City police also arrived.

Erickson spoke with the owner of the dogs, two German Shepherds, and says nothing like this has ever happened before.

"I came out the front door and somehow they got out the door and went after the mail lady," the owner says.

The mail carrier is expected to be okay. The dogs remain quarantined at the Romulus Animal Shelter.

"They allowed me to drive my dogs, myself, in my car to surrender them for a 10-day holding, and after that I won't be bringing the dogs back home."

Some neighbors tell FOX 2's Erika Erickson this is not the first time her dogs have gotten loose, but the dogs' owner says this will be the last time.

"You can't be a responsible pet owner and have something like that happen and not deal with it in the appropriate manner. So, they won't be back because I won't tolerate this."

Garden City police say the owner will face charges under the vicious animal ordinance.
