Overnight Lehigh Street Robbery Shooting Leaves Man Critical

PHILADELPHIA -

Police are investigating a late night robbery that has a man in critical condition.

It happened just before midnight on the 2600 block of West Lehigh Street.

Police say the 23-year-old man was shot in the chest after chasing a man that snatched his girlfriend's purse. Investigators believe the gunman got away on foot with about 300 dollars in cash. The suspect is described as a thin male with tattoos on his face.

Police say that the purse snatching was random, and the couple was not threatened before the purse was snatched.

The victim was transferred to Temple University hospital.

There are several businesses in the area that have surveillance, so Northwest detectives are actively trying to find any footage captured of the suspect. This robbery shooting comes a week after the deadly robbery in Northern Liberties. It's not clear if there's any connection
