Fire Safety Campaign To Help Get Smoke Detectors In Homes

Posted: Updated:
You are about to hear a lot more about fire safety in the wake of a surge of deadly fires. In January alone, there have been a tripling of the number of usual fires.

According to LA City Fire, they've never had this many deaths in such a short amount of time, and all of these fire-related deaths have one thing in common: the people had no smoke detectors in their homes.

Now they are launching a fire safety campaign to try to get the message out. In fact, on Tuesday, FOX 11 reported a fire in mid city where a man lost his life, and two other woman were treated for smoke inhalation.  On January 20th, FOX 11 was at another fire where a man died inside a garage that caught fire.  And another story where an entire family died in a home that had been a former barn that was converted to a house.  In all these incidents, there were no smoke detectors in the home to give these family members an early warning to get out when the fires started.

LA City Fire will try to get the message out with public service announcements and partnering with production companies that make smoke detectors to give them to needy families.
