Parking in Minneapolis? There might be an app for that

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Ever been slapped with a parking ticket because you didn't fill your expired meter in time? That may no longer be a problem in the city of Minneapolis.

At a City Council Transportation and Public Works Committee meeting on Tuesday, the city will solicit proposals from vendors for an on-street mobile phone payment system to accompany the city's recently completed switch to modern parking meters that take credit cards.

Customers would be able to add time to a meter with their smartphone -- word is out on whether a regular mobile phone would be able to utilize the app's capabilities.
